The October Bread and Bible will be themed, “Jesus eats with the Pharisees.” And contains foods that might have been typically served at such a meal. It will be a full meal, appetizers, salad, main course, dessert, etc… and we’ll be starting class promptly at 6:30 on October 21. Bread and Bible meets at 6:30 on the third Tuesday of each month, between September and May. Please plan to attend. Bring a friend, bring a relative, just come. It’s an informal, super fun way to dive into God’s Word, and share fellowship and food with our fellow members of the flock of believers. Won’t you join us? Please do!

Here is what is on the menu!

Onion Board (Pletzels)
Pickled Herring
Tuna Baked in Pistachios & Dill
Minted Beal with yellow summer squash
Cucumbers & Onions with rue & mustard dressing
Jerusalem Cheese & Honey Pie
Fruit platter of fresh grapes, dried dates & figs
Nicodemus’ Anise cookies
Red wine

8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”

10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.

14 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”

15 Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner.

Sure, some of us scored better than others, but it’s not about the score, it’s about the fun of the game (except when you’re losing, of course).

I don’t know what most of us liked more, the golfing or the ice cream afterwards. I know one person would have liked theirs a little more had the person making it not added an ingredient that wasn’t ordered (sorry, in-joke).

For a pictorial view of the evening’s events, click the picture of Gale. Not sure what she’s so happy about, but it must’ve been something good. Maybe she got a hole-in-one. I know Jon got one, and on the windmill hole, nonetheless!

How To Plant Your Garden:

First, you come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses….

FOR THE GARDEN OF YOUR DAILY LIVING,

PLANT THREE ROWS OF PEAS
1. Peace of mind
2. Peace of heart
3. Peace of soul

PLANT FOUR ROWS OF SQUASH:
1. Squash gossip
2. Squash indifference
3. Squash grumbling
4. Squash selfishness

PLANT FOUR ROWS OF LETTUCE:
1. Lettuce be faithful
2. Lettuce be kind
3. Lettuce be patient
4. Lettuce really love one another

NO GARDEN IS WITHOUT TURNIPS:
 1. Turnip for meetings
 2. Turnip for service
 3. Turnip to help one another

TO CONCLUDE OUR GARDEN WE MUST HAVE THYME:
1. Thyme for each other
2. Thyme for family
3. Thyme for friends

WATER FREELY WITH PATIENCE AND CULTIVATE WITH LOVE.

If you are interested in contributing in any way to this ministry, please speak with either Donna Tullberg or Jan Savagian as soon as possible. There are many positions that need to be filled in order to make this years VBS a success. We are currently in need of: five teaching teams, Jr. leaders, individuals to help with crafts and snacks, and so much more. We guarantee if you want to help, we will find the perfect job for you to do. Thank you to all who will be donating their time to help spread the wonderful message to our school age members and children throughout the community.

2O07 – 2008 School Enrollment- Once again it is the time of year to start thinking about the next school year. Good Shepherd Lutheran School will be having its first graduating class this spring! That means our school will have two openings for the 2007 – 2008 school year. If any family from our church is considering enrolling their child or children in our school, please contact Donna Tullberg or Roger Deglow as soon as possible.

Our mission: we seek to grow in faith and knowledge of our Savior Jesus. We want to make him known to others so that they too may share the joys that Jesus won for them.?

WE BELIEVE
… that it’s by GRACE ALONE people are forgiven. We have peace with God and eternal life instead of guilt, fear and condemnation. Grace is God’s “undeserved love”.

… that it’s by FAITH ALONE this free gift of forgiveness is received by people. Faith is the God-created personal trust in all God has done for us by the life, death and victorious resurrection of His only Son, Jesus Christ.

… that it’s the SCRIPTURE ALONE that is the absolute source of truth. It is to be believed above human reason, experience or tradition. By “SCRIPTURE” we mean the Bible, the divinely inspired, inerrant Word of God.

… that New Life is God’s free gift to all who believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior from sin. Far from being a license to sin, we have been freed to serve God boldly, carefully, enthusiastically, in joy and peace.

We’re guided by the Word, built up in it, strengthened and renewed in God’s love through it. We look forward to a glorious, eternal life with Jesus Christ, the Lord.
